The Inauguration of the San Diego Music Hall of Fame (SDMHOF) will be held at the Ocean Beach Playhouse, 4944 Newport Avenue, San Diego, CA 92107 at 7 p.m. Friday, October 5, 2018. Founded to build community and to honor over a century of great musicians in San Diego County, the SDMHOF’s 1st annual induction class features Eagles’ songwriter Jack Tempchin, pop superstar Jason Mraz, armless guitarist Mark Goffeney, jazz pianist Sue Palmer, long-time booker and musician John Ciccolella, and the recently deceased Lou Curtiss, who dedicated his life to local music in myriad of ways.
SD Music Hall of Fame founder Jefferson Jay claims it’s not just another awards show. “Our intention is to be inclusive and pay respect to those who have given a large part of themselves to enhancing music in San Diego, regardless of how many records they may or may not have sold. There is a long, rich history of wonderful music in our region. We are focused on sharing this history and giving San Diegans a meaningful connection to this evolving tale.”
While all of the inductees are not scheduled to appear, Jay promises a captivating night of entertainment, a moving tribute for The San Diego Music Hall of Fame’s 1st annual Induction Gala. Mark Goffeney, born without arms, has traveled the world, representing San Diego with his awe-inspiring musicality, will perform. Inductee Sue Palmer, known as “The Queen of Boogie-Woogie,” will play, as will Billy Galewood, presenting his best friend Jason Mraz, and Gato Papacitos, the long time band of inductee John Ciccolella. A special tribute to Aileen and Aryana Pizarro, a mother and daughter from a musical family who lost their lives in an accident in August, is planned. A portion of proceeds from the event will be given to The Pizarro family.Jefferson Jay will host this special event at The OB Playhouse, 4944 Newport Ave. in Ocean Beach. Doors open at 7:00pm and the show commences at 7:30pm. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
